Michael Cowen: A Legal Career Dedicated to Justice and Advocacy
Michael Cowen is a distinguished attorney with a career spanning over two decades, marked by his dedication to justice and client advocacy. A proud Aggie, Michael graduated from Texas A&M University in 1991 and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. There, he graduated with high honors in 1995 and earned the top score on the Texas Bar Exam—a notable achievement that continues to be a point of recognition.
Following law school, Michael clerked for Judge Reynaldo G. Garza on the Fifth Circuit, gaining invaluable judicial experience. In 1996, he moved to New York and joined Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, the nation's oldest law firm. His tenure in New York, representing numerous corporations, ignited his passion for helping individuals who have been injured and are in need of legal assistance.
Upon returning to Texas, Michael focused his legal career on personal injury cases. His expertise in gathering and interpreting evidence has consistently made him one of the most prepared attorneys in the courtroom. As a Board Certified attorney in personal injury trial law, Michael has shared his knowledge at numerous Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses on a variety of topics, including 18-wheeler and commercial vehicle cases involving death and catastrophic injury, pre-trial motions, and the preservation of evidence.
One of Michael's notable accomplishments includes his work in a product liability case involving defective Chinese-made tires distributed by the Hercules Tire & Rubber Company. Seven months after Michael requested a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation, the tire importer announced a recall of several sizes of All Trac A/T SUV tires. This recall was a testament to Michael's dedication to both his clients and public safety.
In 2016, Michael celebrated 20 years of practicing law. He remains committed to sharing his extensive experience and insights with his peers in the legal community. As a seasoned trial lawyer, Michael has handled over 100 trials. Whether through CLE courses hosted by the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA), the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the Association of Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America (AITLA), or events hosted by his firm, Cowen Rodriguez Peacock, Michael takes pride in mentoring fellow attorneys. He especially welcomes opportunities to collaborate on 18-wheeler and commercial vehicle cases involving death and catastrophic injury.
